I was drawn to Jupiter - the bringer of Jollity (joy/cheerfulness) at a time when I wanted to express and conjure a feeling of joy in my life. The crumhorn of the Renaissance period of western music history was not a solo instrument but an ensemble one. These wind-cap double-reed aerophones with a homogeneous timbre were meant to be played together as an ensemble (consort) to perform polyphonic music. This piece of music was inspired by Gustav Holst’s Jupiter from his The Planets Op.32. The original music was composed around 1914/1916 and each movement is named after a planet of the solar system. Crumhorn, aka, George Worthy is a multi-instrumentalist and sound artist based in Melbourne.
